What are Brown Innovation for Health (BIH) and Hatch Health?
- Brown Innovation for Health is a student organization dedicated to promoting healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship. Each spring, BIH hosts Hatch Health, Brown University’s first student-run healthcare venture incubator, where undergraduates, graduate, and medical students learn how to start their own ventures. BIH hosts workshops in collaboration with our partners, speaker events, and provides dedicated mentorship.
- Hatch Health offers professional workshops through our partners like the New England Medical Innovation Center (NEMIC) and the Center for Digital Health. Ventures also have the opportunity to participate in weekly speaker events and receive one-on-one mentorship from industry experts. Furthermore, each venture accepted into the incubator will also receive baseline funding of $1000.
- Teams of students from Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, and Brown Warren Alpert School of Medicine are all eligible to apply. All team members must be undergraduate or graduate students at these institutions. There is no limit to the number of members on each team. Unfortunately, we will not be accepting applications from individuals this spring. We encourage individuals to apply to the Healthcare Innovation Fellows Program hosted by BIH.
- Hatch Health is a 9-week long program. In 2022, we intend to host the incubator from February to April. Exact dates will be released closer to the spring.
- The application will be open from November 2021 to February 6, 2022 and will require each team to submit one application through this Google Form (link here).
- Workshops are estimated to be 3 hours/week
- Speaker events to be 1 hour/week
- 1-to-1 mentor meetings to be 1 hour/week
- Additional hours may be spent at the team’s discretion to create weekly deliverables like a business plan or pitch deck.
- At the conclusion of our incubator program, prizes are awarded at our finale to first and second place teams at $1000 and $500 respectively.
- Weekly workshops will be hosted in-person, but BIH realizes virtual sessions allow for a more diverse selection of speakers and mentors; therefore, weekly speaker events and meetings with mentors will be held virtually through Zoom.
